His current work examines institutional and policy drivers of foreign direct investments in China. He has published widely, including two books, Inflation and Investment Controls in China (Cambridge University Press, ) and FDI in China (Singapore: Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, ). He is currently working on a book tracing the institutional roots of China's high demand for FDI. In addition to professional journals and edited volumes, Professor Huang has also published op-ed pieces in the New York Times, Asian Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune, and Foreign Policy.
